Proclamation Authorizing the Issue and Prescribing the Composition, Dimensions and Designs of Two Twenty Dollar Precious Metal Coins

A Proclamation

Whereas subsection 5.1(1) and paragraph 5.1(2)(a) of the Royal Canadian Mint Act provide that the Governor in Council may, by proclamation, authorize the issue of precious metal coins of a description, and of the standards, margin of tolerance and least current weight applicable to that description, specified in Part I of the schedule to that Act and prescribe the dimensions and designs of any precious metal coins;

Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada and pursuant to Order in Council P.C. 1998-291 of February 26, 1998, do by this Our Proclamation authorize the issue and prescribe the dimensions and designs of the following precious metal coins:

(a) a twenty dollar coin

(i) the composition of which shall be silver (with a cameo insert plated with 24 karat gold), and the standards, margin of tolerance and least current weight of which shall be as specified in Part I of the schedule to the Royal Canadian Mint Act,

(ii) the diameter of which shall be 38 mm,

(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the approved effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D•G•REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, the initials "D.H." on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline and, at the bottom of the coin, the year "1998" with a dot to the left and to the right, and

(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict a Canadair CP-107 Argus aircraft, with clouds and a partially submerged submarine in the background and, in the upper left quadrant, a cameo of William Sydney Longhurst, and the initials "PM" appearing to the right of the aircraft and the words "CANADA 20 DOLLARS" at the bottom of the design; and

(b) a twenty dollar coin

(i) the composition of which shall be silver (with a cameo insert plated with 24 karat gold), and the standards, margin of tolerance and least current weight of which shall be as specified in Part I of the schedule to the Royal Canadian Mint Act,

(ii) the diameter of which shall be 38 mm,

(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the approved effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D•G•REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, the initials "D.H." on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline and, at the bottom of the coin, the year "1998" with a dot to the left and to the right, and

(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict a Canadair CL-215 Waterbomber aircraft, with clouds and a treed shoreline in the background and, in the upper left quadrant, a cameo of Paul Gagnon, and the initials "PM" appearing at the extreme right and the words "CANADA 20 DOLLARS" at the bottom of the design.

Of All Which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these Presents may concern are hereby required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly.

LeBlanc, a Member of Our Privy Council for Canada, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

At Our Government House, in Our City of Ottawa, this twentieth day of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ninety-eight and in the forty-seventh year of Our Reign.
