CANADA POST CORPORATION ACT

Regulations Amending the Non-mailable Matter Regulations

Whereas, pursuant to subsection 20(1) of the Canada Post Corporation Act, a copy of the proposed Regulations Amending the Non-mailable Matter Regulations, substantially in the annexed form, was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on June 27, 1998 and a reasonable opportunity was afforded to interested persons to make representations to the Minister of Public Works and Government Services with respect to the proposed regulations;

Therefore, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, pursuant to subsection 19(1)(see footnote a) of the Canada Post Corporation Act, hereby approves the annexed Regulations Amending the Non-mailable Matter Regulations, made on August 27, 1998 by the Canada Post Corporation.

REGULATIONS AMENDING THE NON-MAILABLE MATTER REGULATIONS

AMENDMENTS

1. Paragraph 4(d) of the Non-mailable Matter Regulations(see footnote 1) is replaced by the following:

(d) any non-mailable matter included in item 4 of the schedule shall be delivered to a police officer, a peace officer or the competent authority, as applicable; and

2. Subitem 3(3) of the schedule to the Regulations is amended by striking out the word "or" at the end of paragraph (b), by adding the word "or" at the end of paragraph (c) and by adding the following after paragraph (c):

(d) transmitted by post within Canada between a peace officer and a testing laboratory for the purpose of carrying out a lawful investigation.

3. Item 4 of the schedule to the Regulations is replaced by the following:

4. Any item transmitted by post in contravention of an Act or a regulation of Canada.

COMING INTO FORCE

4. These Regulations come into force on January 1, 1999.
