Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Industry, pursuant to section 51 of An Act to establish the Canadian Tourism Commission, assented to on October 20, 2000, being chapter 28 of the Statutes of Canada, 2000, hereby fixes January 2, 2001 as the day on which that Act comes into force.

The Canadian Tourism Commission Act creates a Crown corporation, the Canadian Tourism Commission, for the purposes of sustaining a vibrant and profitable Canadian tourism industry, marketing Canada as a desirable tourist destination, supporting a cooperative relationship between the private sector and the governments of Canada, the provinces and the territories with respect to Canadian tourism and providing information about Canadian tourism to the private sector and to the governments of Canada, the provinces and the territories.
