ROYAL CANADIAN MINT ACT
Order Authorizing the Issue and Determining the Designs of Circulation Coins
P.C. 2003-773 29 May, 2003
Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Transport, pursuant to sections 6.4 (see footnote a) and 6.5 (see footnote b) of the Royal Canadian Mint Act, hereby authorizes the issue and determines the designs of circulation coins as follows,
-
(a) a two dollar coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 1 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 28.0 mm,
(iii) the design on the obverse impression of which shall depict, on the core the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, with the initials "SB" on the lower left-hand corner of the neckline, and, on the ring, a maple leaf at the top with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and right, respectively, and the year of issue below the design, and
(iv) the design on the reverse impression of which shall depict, on the core a polar bear standing on the edge of an ice floe, with the initials "BT" appearing below and to the right and mountains in the background, and, on the outer ring along the circumference of the coin, the word "CANADA" at the top and "2 DOLLARS" at the bottom of the coin;
(b) a one dollar coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 2 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 26.8 mm,
(iii) the design on the obverse impression of which shall depict the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, with the initials "SB" on the lower left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" along the circumference of the coin to the left and right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design on the reverse impression of which shall depict a common loon at rest on a lake with an islet to the left in the background, the initials "RRC" to the right of the loon, the year of issue below the loon, and the words "CANADA" and "DOLLAR" along the circumference of the coin above and below the design, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(c) a fifty cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 3 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 27.13 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict, between supporters, the ensigns armorial of Canada in a shield surmounted by the Royal Crown, with the first two digits and the last two digits of the year of issue to the left and right of the Crown, respectively, with the words "CANADA" and "50 CENTS" appearing along the circumference of the coin to the left and to the right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(d) a fifty cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 3.1 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 27.13 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and the letter "P" below the effigy, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict, between supporters, the ensigns armorial of Canada in a shield surmounted by the Royal Crown, with the first two digits and the last two digits of the year of issue to the left and right of the Crown, respectively, with the words "CANADA" and "50 CENTS" appearing along the circumference of the coin to the left and to the right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(e) a twenty-five cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 4 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 23.88 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict the profile of a caribou head, with the inscription "25 CENTS" between the antlers, with the word "CANADA" and the year of issue along the circumference of the coin, and the initial "H" appearing at the bottom of the design, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(f) a twenty-five cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 4.1 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 23.88 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and the letter "P" below the effigy, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict the profile of a caribou head, with the inscription "25 CENTS" between the antlers, with the word "CANADA" and the year of issue along the circumference of the coin, and the initial "H" appearing at the bottom of the design, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(g) a ten cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 5 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 18.03 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict the Bluenose under sail, the year of issue to the right, the initial "H" to the left above the water, the inscriptions "CANADA" and "10 CENTS" above and below the design, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(h) a ten cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 5.1 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 18.03 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and the letter "P" below the effigy, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and,
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict the Bluenose under sail, the year of issue to the right, the initial "H" to the left above the water, the inscriptions "CANADA" and "10 CENTS" above and below the design, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(i) a five cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 6 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 21.20 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict the profile of a beaver sitting on a beaver dam surrounded by water, with the initials "K·G" to the left of the design, the inscription "5 CENTS" between two maple leaves above the design, and the word "CANADA" and the year of issue below the design, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(j) a five cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 6.1 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 21.20 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and the letter "P" below the effigy, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict the profile of a beaver sitting on a beaver dam surrounded by water, with the initials "K·G" to the left of the design, the inscription "5 CENTS" between two maple leaves above the design, and the word "CANADA" and the year of issue below the design, and with beading around the circumference of the coin;
(k) a one cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 7 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 19.02 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict a two-leaved twig of maple with the year of issue appearing to the left and the initials "K·G" to the right, with the inscriptions "1 CENT" and "CANADA" above and below the design, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin; and
(l) a one cent coin
-
(i) the characteristics of which shall be as specified in item 8 or 9 of Part 2 of the schedule to that Act,
(ii) the diameter of which shall be 19.02 mm,
(iii) the design of the obverse impression of which shall be the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the initials "SB" on the bottom left-hand corner of the neckline, the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "D·G·REGINA" to the left and to the right, respectively, and the letter "P" below the effigy, and with beading around the circumference of the coin, and
<
(iv) the design of the reverse impression of which shall depict a two-leaved twig of maple with the year of issue appearing to the left and the initials "K·G" to the right, with the inscriptions "1 CENT" and "CANADA" above and below the design, respectively, and with beading around the circumference of the coin.
