REGULATORY IMPACT ANALYSIS STATEMENT
(This statement is not part of the Regulations.)
Description
These regulatory amendments respond to concerns expressed by the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations (SJCSR) about the wording of the listings for the enzyme transglutaminase in item T.01 of Table V to section B.16.100 of the Food and Drug Regulations. Specifically, the SJCSR has suggested that the wording "except for any of these products for which standards are set out in these Regulations" designates these products "unstandardized foods," which is a defined term under the Regulations. The SJCSR has indicated that the specification of the areas of use for transglutaminase should include the word "unstandardized." Subitems (1), (3) to (5) and (7) in column III, item T.01 in Table V to section B.16.100 are amended to include the word "unstandardized" and to remove the words "except for any of these products for which standards are set out in these Regulations." These amendments do not bring any substantive amendments to the Regulations.
It is expected that these changes will have little or no impact on Canadians. The miscellaneous amendments regulations were developed to streamline the regulatory process in order to maintain accuracy and consistency in regulations.
