Overtime Billing Procedures with Regard to the Publication of Regulatory Text in the Canada Gazette, Part Ⅰ and Part Ⅱ

Overtime is charged on a case-by-case basis and is dependent upon our workload for the targeted week. Please be advised that, although it is difficult for us to estimate our workload volume in advance, we avoid charging overtime whenever possible. You will always be advised beforehand if overtime will be charged.

Unfortunately, your ability to respect Treasury Board (TB) deadlines, as well as meet our publication deadlines, does not guarantee that we will be able to publish your documents in Part Ⅰ on the requested date. The Canada Gazette Directorate must work with numerous variables over which it has no control when planning the workflow for a targeted publication, such as the timing and dates of TB meetings, the number of items being considered at these meetings, the length and quality of documents submitted, etc.

To avoid incurring overtime costs, you may wish to

  • defer the publication of documents to the following week;
  • allow sufficient time for the processing and editing of documents;
  • submit documents that have been quality controlled for spelling and grammatical errors as well as for accuracy of content between English and French versions; and
  • target TB meetings ahead of the last meeting of a Parliamentary session.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Should you have further questions about how overtime costs may apply in your particular circumstances, please contact the Manager, Editing Services, at 613-943-5261.
