Order Amending the Treaty Land Entitlement (Saskatchewan) Remission Order

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of National Revenue, pursuant to subsection 23(2) (see footnote a) of the Financial Administration Act (see footnote b), hereby makes the annexed Order Amending the Treaty Land Entitlement (Saskatchewan) Remission Order.

ORDER AMENDING THE TREATY LAND ENTITLEMENT (SASKATCHEWAN) REMISSION ORDER

1. The schedule to the TreatyLand Entitlement (Saskatchewan) Remission Order (see footnote 1) is amended by adding the following after item 30:

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Order amends the Treaty Land Entitlement (Saskatchewan) Remission Order, which remits the tax paid or payable on land purchases made by certain Indian bands of Saskatchewan in settlement of treaty land entitlement claims pursuant to the terms of binding agreements entered into by the bands, the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan.

The settlement agreements entered into by Sturgeon Lake First Nation and Muskoday First Nation on June 19, 2007 and November 23, 2007, respectively, are on the same or substantially the same basis as previous agreements reflected in the Order and fall within the meaning of “specific agreement” set out in the Order. These bands are therefore entitled to be added to the Schedule to the Order.
