EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order.)
The Canadian Grain Commission, as a part of its role in grain quality assurance, establishes percentages of moisture for grain grown in Canada. Those percentages provide guidance to the grain industry when storing and conditioning grain to ensure that the grain maintains its quality given Canadian climatic and grain storage conditions.
The amendment adds Wheat, Canada Western General Purpose to the list of grains set out in Schedule II to the Off Grades of Grain and Grades of Screenings Order. Following consultations with the wheat industry in western Canada and on the recommendation of the Western Standards Committee, the Canada Western General Purpose wheat class has been created to facilitate the development and marketing of wheat varieties designed for the ethanol and feed sector.
