Laurie’s Recycling & Waste Services Inc. Remission Order

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, considering that it is in the public interest to do so, on the recommendation of the Minister of National Revenue, pursuant to subsection 23(2) (see footnote a) of the Financial Administration Act (see footnote b), hereby remits to Laurie’s Recycling & Waste Services Inc. the amount of $18,300.75, plus related penalties and interest, representing tax payable under Division II of Part IX of the Excise Tax Act (see footnote c) in respect of the supply of waste collection services during the period beginning on April 1, 2004 and ending on June 30, 2004.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Order remits $18,300.75 to Laurie’s Recycling & Waste Services Inc., plus related penalties and interest, representing the goods and services tax collectible by that company. The remission is granted because, having relied on misleading advice on the part of a Canada Revenue Agency official regarding the tax status of waste collection services, company officials failed to properly collect and remit the tax payable on supplies of those services during the period beginning on April 1, 2004 and ending on June 30, 2004.
