CANADA NATIONAL PARKS ACT

Order Fixing March 26, 2010 as the Date of the Coming into Force of Certain Sections of the Act

P.C. 2010-385 March 25, 2010

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of the Environment, pursuant to subsection 71(2) of the Canada National Parks Act, chapter 32 of the Statutes of Canada, 2000, hereby fixes March 26, 2010 as the day on which paragraph 17(1)(b) and the description of Wapusk National Park of Canada in Part 4 of Schedule 1 to that Act come into force.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Order fixes March 26, 2010 as the day on which the description of Wapusk National Park of Canada, contained in Part 4 of Schedule 1 to the Canada National Parks Act (“the Act”), comes into force. This will create Wapusk National Park of Canada.

The Order also fixes March 26, 2010 as the day on which paragraph 17(1)(b) of the Act comes into force. Paragraph 17(1)(b) empowers the Governor in Council to make regulations respecting the exercise of traditional renewable resource harvesting activities in Wapusk National Park of Canada. The exercise of those activities in the territory that constitutes the park was previously controlled under provincial legislation, and, in particular, the Wildlife Act of Manitoba.

The Wapusk National Park of Canada Park Use Regulations, the first regulations to be made under the authority of paragraph 17(1)(b) of the Act, come into force on the same day as the Order.
