Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, considering that it is in the public interest to do so, on the recommendation of the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and the Treasury Board, pursuant to subsection 23(2.1) (see footnote a) of the Financial Administration Act (see footnote b), hereby makes the annexed Certain Participants in the 13th IAAF World Junior Championships Remission Order.
CERTAIN PARTICIPANTS IN THE 13TH IAAF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS REMISSION ORDER
1. Remission is granted of the fees paid or payable by a person for the processing of an application for a single-entry temporary resident visa or a work permit as required under subsections 296(1) and 299(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations to any individual who
(a) other than an individual ordinarily resident in Canada, is the holder of a letter of invitation from the International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships Organizing Committee Moncton 2010 Inc. (“IAAF”), organizers of the 13th IAAF World Junior Championship, and is
(i) a member of a national delegation or team, or an Athlete Representative,
(ii) an IAAF competition delegate, a member of the IAAF Council, IAAF staff, Athletics Management & Services staff or Dentsu staff, a sponsor or partner, an accredited member of the media or a broadcaster, or
(iii) any accompanying spouse, common-law spouse or dependant child of any person referred to in subparagraph (i) or (ii);
(b) provides a copy of the letter of invitation referred to in paragraph (a); and
(c) is not already exempt under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act from paying the fees referred to in this Order.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order.)
For the purpose of honouring commitments made by Canada in support of the City of Moncton’s bid to host the 13th International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships (“the Championships”), thereby supporting Canada’s international and domestic relations, the Order grants remission of the $75 fee payable for the processing of an application for a single-entry temporary resident visa under subsection 296(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations and of the $150 fee payable for a work permit under subsection 299(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, to selected participants of the Championships which take place in Moncton from July 19 to 25, 2010. This measure is to end on July 25, 2010, to coincide with the end of the Championships.
