ARCHIVED — Order Fixing February 14, 2011 as the Day on which Sections 1874 and 1875 of the Jobs and Economic Growth Act Come into Force

P.C. 2011-65 February 3, 2011

His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to section 1884 of the Jobs and Economic Growth Act, chapter 12 of the Statutes of Canada, 2010, hereby fixes February 14, 2011 as the day on which sections 1874 and 1875 of that Act come into force.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order fixes February 14, 2011, as the day on which certain provisions of AnAct to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 4, 2010 and other measures come into force.

These provisions amend the thresholds at which FINTRAC can disclose designated information to the Canada Revenue Agency and the Canada Border Services Agency, in order to support amendments to the Income Tax Act and Excise Tax Act, which introduce the offence of tax evasion as a predicate offence to money laundering and terrorist financing offences, and improve the information sharing capacities of the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC).
