Proclamation Declaring the year 2015 as the “Year of Sport in Canada”

ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories QUEEN, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

TO ALL TO WHOM these presents shall come or whom the same may in any way concern,

Whereas sport plays a powerful role in enhancing the lives of Canadians of all ages;

Whereas in 2015, communities across Canada will have the honour of hosting several high-profile national and international sport events, including the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, the 25th edition of the Canada Winter Games, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association Women’s World Cup and the Toronto 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games;

Whereas Canada is a leading sport nation and Canada’s athletes contribute to our sense of national pride as we encourage our high-performance athletes in their pursuit of excellence;

Whereas it is desirable to encourage Canadians to become more active and healthy through sport and physical activity;

Whereas sport is a major part of Canadian life which will be celebrated through numerous events and initiatives taking place across Canada in 2015;

Whereas it is desirable to recognize our appreciation for all the volunteers in sport, including the coaches, officials and administrators in our communities who help instill a lifelong love of sport and physical activity in our children and youth;

And whereas, by Order in Council P.C. 2014-1101 of October 10, 2014, the Governor in Council ordered that a proclamation do issue declaring the year 2015 as the “Year of Sport in Canada”;

Now know you that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada, do by this Our proclamation declare the year 2015 as the “Year of Sport in Canada”.

Of all which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these presents may concern are required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly.

In testimony whereof, We have caused this Our proclamation to be published and the Great Seal of Canada to be affixed to it. WITNESS: PATRICIA JATON, Deputy of Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved David Johnston, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Merit of the Police Forces, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.

AT OTTAWA, this fifteenth day of October in the year of Our Lord two thousand and fourteen and in the sixty-third year of Our Reign.
